1908 New York - Paris (”The Great Race” 1965 WB)

In 1907 it had been the turn of the Peking to Paris Race. The undertaking of the Italian Prince Borghese.

1908: The Challenge has been raised. New York to Paris (the other way round… the round of the world in a Motor - Car). Many Newspapers gathered to launch the idea and to support it. Il Mattino di Napoli, La Stampa, Le Matin, The Daily Mail, The New York Times.

Reality goes beyond Fiction and this is particularly true about this worldwide Challenge. To the point Warner Bros in 1965 released “The Great Race” movie, starring Tony Curtis, Peter Falk, Jack Lemmon, Natalie Wood amongst others, directly inspired by it.

Nothing more appropriate than starting this WE blog about the Race as a whole with the Movie trailer. But Remember Reality is more incredible than the Movie. Professor Fate - Destiny - is in the air. Here we go. 1st July and the Official start of Celebrations of the Longest Endurance Race ever. The “1908 New York - Paris”. Around the World in a Motor-Car or “The Great Race” as Hollywood called it featuring a movie inspired by it. The first post is a motivational to all those who will wish to network, co organize, support - morally or economically, a social aware event meant to celebrate the 100 Years of this nearly - and make revive - unknown International undertaking in a global spirit and effort that can make affirm in 1908 things moved speedier than…2008. In a way. A cultural event that went very pragmatic through unbelievable difficulties. Same approach is needed in 2008. Not a “Provincial” attitude yet a Decisional one.
